Ingredients
1 big bitter gourd/karela/hagalkayi
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp tamarind pulp
1 tsp salt
2 slit green chillies
Curry leaves
1/2 cup coconut gratings

3 small onions
2 garlic cloves
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
2 tsp coconut oil
For the tempering:
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
Curry leaves
Procedure
Wash and cut the bitter gourd into small pieces. Cook them with tamarind pulp, salt, turmeric powder, green chillies and curry leaves with little water.
Heat oil and roast coconut gratings with onions and garlic till it turns brown.
Switch off the heat and add one tsp red chilli powder, coriander powder and grind this into a powder.
Add this to the cooked vegetable, mix nicely and cook for few minutes.
If you want the gravy to add little water.
Add the tempering with the mentioned ingredients and mix.
Serve with rice and rasam.
