BasaLe Soppina Mosaru Bajji/ Malabar Spinach Raitha

Malabar spinach /BasaLe Soppu as we call it in Kannada is very nutritious and has many health benefits. You can add this in dal, make curries, tamblis , stir fry, etc. This mosaru bajji tastes awesome with hot rice in hot summer.



Ingredients

1 cup finely chopped basaLe soppu / VaaLi / Malabar spinach (use only leaves)

Salt to taste

1/2 cup curds


For the masala paste:

1/2 cup fresh coconut gratings

1/2 green chilli

1/4 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds

Salt to taste

Grind the above ingredients into a smooth paste adding little water. (like chutney)


For the tempering:

2 tsp oil

1 tsp mustard

1 sprig of curry leaves

1 tsp urad dal

1 dry red chilli bits

Pinch of hing/ asafoetida




Procedure


  • Take chopped Basale soppu in a vessel, add a little salt and 1/4 cup water.

  • Cook it till the leaves become tender and soft. Once it is cooked turn off the flame and let it cool.

  • Once it becomes cool, add the masala paste, curds and mix well. Adjust the consistency according to your taste.

  • Temper it with the ingredients mentioned. Serve chilled with rice.
