This is a side dish for any biryani, made with onion, tomato, spices, and herbs. One of the best side gravy for biryani, pulav or any flavoured rice dishes. It is also known as Sherva or Shorba and is a very common dish served in South Indian Restaurants.



Ingredients
1chopped onion
3 garlic cloves
1/2 inch ginger
2 tbsp cashew nuts
1/2 tsp coriander seeds
3 tbsp coconut gratings
Grind these ingredients into a smooth paste
For the seasoning:
3 tsp oil
1 bay leaf/tej pattha
1/2 tsp saunf /fennel seeds
Small piece cinnamon/ dalchini
2 slit green chillies
1 finely chopped onion
1 finely chopped tomato
1/2 tsp turmeric/Haldi powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala
4-5 mint/pudina leaves
Salt to taste
chopped coriander leaves
Procedure
Heat oil in a pan, add the pattha,saunf,dalchini and saute for a while.
Now add in slit green chillies and chopped onions. Saute till they turn light brown in colour.
Tip in the chopped tomatoes and little salt, cook till they turn mushy.
Add the ground paste and cook it for 5 minutes, followed by turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala powder.
Saute for a while and put chopped mint leaves, salt to taste and water. Adjust the consistency as per your taste, and let it boil for 10 minutes.
Turn off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with any biryani, pulav or flavoured rice dishes.
