Heere Kayi which is also called Ghosale in Konkani n Ridgegourd in English. This is a very simple side dish for rice. You can try this with other veggies like cabbage, beans, snake gourd too.
Ingredients
1 cup washed, peeled,ridge gourd pieces
1/4 cup boiled moong dal
Salt to taste
For the masala:
1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
2 green chillies
1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Little tamarind
Grind this to a smooth paste and keep aside
For tempering;
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
curry leaves
1 tsp chana dal/Bengal gram
1 tsp urad dal/white lentil
Lil hing/asafoetida
2 red chillies broken
Procedure
Take boiled moong dal and boiled ridge gourd pieces in a vessel, add salt, masala paste and make it boil.
Add the tempering and serve hot with rice.
