Pathrodo is a Konkani delicacy, prepared with Coclocasia /Arbi leaves multi-layered with spices and steamed. It is also called Patra in Gujarati and Aluchi vadi in Marathi. Konkanis love to eat this with lots of coconut oil.

Ingredients

20 arbi leaves /patrade paan/colocasia leaves( wash and cut the stems and veins)

For masala:

1/2 cup moong / Green gram

2 tbsp dosa rice

1 to 1.5 cups fresh grated coconut

Small chickpea size hing / asafoetida

8-10 red chilies roasted in little oil

2 tsp tamarind pulp

Salt to taste

Coconut Oil to serve

Procedure

  • On a flat surface place one big leaf with a stalk end towards you. Spread the masala over the leaves and keep layering the leaves one above the other.

  • Fold the side ends about 2 inches towards the center

  • Smear the masala on the folds

  • Start rolling it from the bottom to form a tight log

  • Cut onto 2 inches pieces and steam it in cooker or idli vessel for 30 to 35 minutes

  • Serve hot with coconut oil.
