Tingalavare Koddel

Koddel is a famous Konkani dish that can be prepared with any combinations of both veggies and pulses or beans. Tingalavaro or white beans is very popular among South Indians and is extensively used in cooking varieties of dishes.




Ingredients

1/2 cup tingalavaro / white beans

1 drumstick,cut into 2-inch pieces

1 cup chayote squash / seemebadane cut into chunks

Salt to taste


For the masala paste:

1cup grated coconut

little tamarind

4-5 red chillies roasted in 1/2 tsp oil

Grind the above ingredients into a fine paste and keep aside


For the tadka:

5 Tsp oil

10 garlic cloves crushed




Procedure


  • Soak white beans in 1 cup water for 2-3 hrs, cook in cooker with 1 cup water for 2-3 whistles

  • Open the lid, add chayote and again cook for 1 whistle

  • Cook drumsticks in a vessel with little water and salt(don't cook in cooker)

  • Transfer all the cooked beans, veggies to a vessel, add salt to taste, ground masala, water to adjust the consistency(semi-thick gravy)

  • Make it boil for 10 mins, add the tadka, tempering to the curry and turn off the flame

  • Your koddel is ready to serve with rice.
