Black eyed peas or lobhiya is called Alasande bee and Chinese potato as Kooka in Konkani. These black-eyed peas taste way too awesome in a curry that has minimum spices and freshly grated coconut masala. Authentically this curry is called Bendi or Koddel in the coastal region of Karnataka. You can substitute Chinese potato with yam, potato or Malabar cucumber.

Ingredients
1/2 cup alsande bee/ lobhiya/ black eyed beans
1/4 cup kooka/ chinese potato, peeled and cut into cubes
Salt to taste
FOR THE MASALA:
3/4 cup grated coconut
little tamarind
3-4 red chillies roasted in 1/2 tsp oil
Grind these into a fine paste and keep
FOR THE TEMPERING:
4-5 tsp oil
10 garlic cloves crushed
Procedure
Soak beans in enough water for 4-5 hrs, and cook in cooker with Chinese potato cubes, 1 cup water for 3-4 whistles or till it is cooked well
Transfer cooked beans and Chinese potato in a broad vessel, add salt, masala paste and water if needed and adjust the consistency of the curry (semi-thick) according to your taste
Make it boil for 5-10 mins
Take oil in a pan and fry the crushed garlic till it becomes brown
Add this tempering to the prepared curry and mix well
Serve hot with rice!!!
