Very simple and tasty Banarsi Chura Matar Poha, similar to Aloo poha or Kanda poha. Chura Matar Poha is a winter special dish popular in Uttar Pradesh, with added green masala and lots of fresh green peas.
Ingredients
1.5 cups thick poha / flattened rice
1/2 cup fresh green peas (boiled)
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera
2-3 slit green chillies
Few curry leaves
Pinch of hing/ asafoetida
1 tsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander leaves
For the green masala:
Grind 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves, 1/2 inch ginger, and 2-3 garlic cloves
Procedure
Take poha in a strainer or colander. Rinse with fresh water twice, and move the poha with your hands while rinsing.
Take a wok, pour the oil and let it heat. Now add the cumin seeds and let them crackle.
Add curry leaves, hing, and slit green chillies, and saute for a while. Add the green masala and fry for 5 minutes.
Add in the boiled green peas and rinsed poha with salt to taste. Give a good mix.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice, mix well and serve hot with hot coffee or tea.
