Taikile leaves or taikilo are seen only during the monsoon season. It is called Cassia tora in English. In Udupi, Mangaluru regions these leaves are used to prepare a variety of dishes. These leaves have lots of medicinal benefits too. Spicy Rice dumplings steamed in banana leaf are called sanna muddo in Konkani. Soaked rice is ground with chillies, coconut and then mixed with veggies like onion, cabbage, or any leafy vegetables like palak, colocasia leaves, methi, drumstick leaves or amaranth leaves.

Ingredients
1 cup dosa rice
3/4 cup grated coconut
6-7 roasted red chillies
Little tamarind
Salt to taste
little hing / asafoetida
1 cup finely washed and chopped taikile leaves
Procedure
Soak rice in water for 2 hrs, wash well and drain all the water
In a mixer jar put red chillies, tamarind, salt and grated coconut grind into a smooth paste
Now add the rice and grind into a slightly coarse batter
Remove the batter to a bowl, add the chopped leaves , mix well
Take pieces of banana leaf, keep around 2 ladle full batter in the centre and fold it
Heat the idli steamer and steam it for 15 to 20 mins
Serve hot with coconut oil drizzled on it
Tastes awesome with hot rice and dal
