Sanna Khotto is a savoury, spicy rice cake steamed in jackfruit leaves cups. It is a mixture of ground rice and Toor Dal batter with red chillies and coconut. It is traditionally served as a side dish with rice and dalithoy. (Konkani style dal) Sanna khotto/sanna idli/sanna muddo are made using drumstick leaves, colocasia leaves, cabbage and onions, or using just onions or hing etc. You can steam this batter in idli moulds or in a plate.
Ingredients
1/2 cup dosa rice
1/4 cup Toor dal
1/4 cup chopped cabbage
1 big onion chopped
1/2 cup grated coconut
4-5 red chillies
little tamarind
Salt to taste
Procedure
Soak rice and dal in water for 1 hr and wash it
Grind coconut, red chillies, tamarind, salt into a fine paste
Then add soaked rice and dal (drain all the water)
Grind into a semi coarse batter, adding little water(batter consistency should be a little thicker than Rava idli batter)
Add chopped cabbage and onion to the batter
Steam it in idli moulds for 15- 20 mins
Serve hot drizzled with coconut oil with rice and dal.
