Chana dal Payasam with Jackfruit





Ingredients


1/2 cup chana dal/ split Bengal gram

1/2 cup jaggery / or to taste

1 cup fresh grated coconut

2 tsp rice powder

1/2 cup ripe jackfruit cut into chunks

Cashews and raisins taste

1 tsp cardamom powder


Procedure

  • Dry roast chana dal in a pan till a nice aroma comes

  • Wash the dal and cook in a cooker adding 1.5 cups of water, for 3-4 whistles or till the dal is cooked (don't overcook dal)

  • Meanwhile, grind the coconut in a mixer into a fine paste and extract the thick milk.

  • Grind the residue again and extract thin coconut milk.

  • Transfer the cooked dal to a vessel, add the thin coconut milk and jackfruit pieces

  • Cook till the jackfruit is cooked, add jaggery and cook till it melts

  • Mix the rice flour in Lil water, make a paste and add it to the dal

  • Add the thick milk, nuts n raisins to the dal and allow it to boil

  • Garnish with cardamom powder and serve hot.
